This is an AIARE 1 course for winter leaders. The course includes a review in avalanche and snow mechanics, stability analysis and snow-pit techniques. This course introduces a pre trip group planing module to leaders and how to involve participant's in field navigation, We will practice search techniques and advanced beacon use. This course will include the study and practice of group interaction and communication, often the case of avalanche incidents.The class consists of four evening sessions held at the Mercer Island Community Center on January 6th, 8th, 13th, and 15th. The course also includes a full weekend of field sessions either Jan 17,18 or Jan 24,25 these field days run from 7am to 5pm please plan accordingly. The field sessions will focus on leading groups in avalanche terrain and group rescue techniques. Please email me with any questions you might have.
Field Days will be either Jan 17,18 or Jan 24,25 first come first choice of those dates.
If you want a certificate of completion from AIARE you will be required to complete all four evening and both field days.
