This is a two-days clinic in the Deception Pass State Park area for Intermdiate-level SK work in Bowman Bay, around Deception Island, and in Deception/Canoe Pass.  The idea is that folks can participate on one or both days.  What we do exactly depends a bit on who is attending, as well as weather details.  But expect topics related to boat handling in dynamic conditions, as well as incident management:
- Paddling in waves/swell
- Paddling in laminar current from both ahead and behind
- Paddling in turbulent current
- Paddling in wind
- Paddling in combinations of wind, waves, current
- Bracing and rolling in current (rather than a pool)
- Towing
- Towing in current
- Towing as part of expedited rescue in dynamic conditions
- Releasing tow line under adverse loading
- Swimmer separated from kayak
- Kayak with flooded hatches
- Unconscious/disabled paddler in the water

Launch and landing at Bowman Bay, which involves a Discover Pass.

This work has two principal development goals: 1)develop fundamental skills that tend to apply in a broad range of circumstance; 2)develop composure to perform in challenging conditions.

Plan on some physical effort, plan on being in the water, plan on being task saturated, and plan on significantly improving your paddling capacity in challenging conditions.  You are welcome to attend either day if you cannot make both, but we will not know which topics are on which day until we see weather forecasts a day or two out.
