Everett Navigation Course - Camp Pigott

  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)

We will be starting our class at the Camp Pigott Long House at 8AM. Please arrive early to check in and get your group assignments.

This is a one day course that combines lectures, classwork and outdoor field experience to learn the techniques and confidence needed to navigate the wilderness with a map, compass and altimeter.

Sign in starts at 7:30. There you will be assigned to your group for the day. Please be on time, the lectures and classwork will start promptly at 8AM.

Please bring your compass (see required equipment for compass requirements), food, water, pencil, any materials needed for note taking, proper clothing for outdoor wilderness travel (no cotton, jeans or inappropriate shoes). Rain shell, Gaiters, gloves and boots are highly recommended, the outdoor portion can be very wet and muddy and there are many plants with thorns, spines and prickles. Weather can range from mild & sunny to a cold & rainy, please be prepared.

After the indoor portion is completed all groups will head out with their group leaders for the field exercises. **Note that the field exercises will total 5-6 miles round trip**. Once each group has completed the exercises they will return to check in. Only when the entire group is accounted for can anyone leave.
