Use the skills you learned in fundamentals to get your first lead(s) on real rock.

Meet at the Exit 38 Far Side Crags parking lot (Dirty Harry's Balcony Trailhead) at 8am.  We will hike in and out from the crags together.  In addition to climbing gear, bring enough food and water for the day.

We'll build on the skills presented at fundamentals in a real rock environment. The following topics will be covered.

  • Route examination; bolts, length, rock type and condition, run-out.
  • Guidebook use.
  • Communication; what's the plan?
  • Lead climbing and belaying.
  • Top-rope anchors and access from above. 
  • Bailing.
