Use the skills you learned in fundamentals to get your first lead(s) on real rock.

8:00am at the Far Side parking area for Exit 38 (also known as Dirty Harry's Balcony trail). Please arrive a few minutes early so we can depart toward the routes at 8:0am.  

We'll build on the skills presented at fundamentals in a real rock environment. The following topics will be covered.

  • Route examination; bolts, length, rock type and condition, run-out.
  • Guidebook use.
  • Communication; what's the plan?
  • Lead climbing and belaying.
  • Top-rope anchors and access from above. 
  • Bailing.
