Field trip: Intermediate Leading On Rock

Leading On Rock 2, Everett Intermediate Course - Vantage (Frenchman Coulee)

In this field trip students practice placing trad gear on mock lead. We will also build omni-directional anchors and three-point gear anchors. There will be opportunities to do true leads on classic moderate trad routes at Sunshine Wall.

Group will be camping at Vantage, with some arriving Friday night. Stay tuned for email detailing the weekend.

At Leading On Rock 2 (LOR2) the students will practice building trad gear belay anchors in preparation to hanging belays.  This will prepare the students to climb multi pitch routes where hanging belays will be needed. The students will be instructed to build different types of belay anchors.  The students will then practice these skills while climbing single pitch routes.

Students will be given the chance to do true trad leads after they have led the same route with a top rope belay.  The routes chosen will be moderate routes. This will allow the student to focus on solid gear placement.

The emphasis of this class is learning to rock climb as safely as possible in near vertical rock or vertical rock terrain.
