This IGC field trip provides practical field experience on roped glacier travel on more technical terrain.  Skills include use of snow and ice anchors, running belays, French technique, crevasse rescue and more advanced travel, navigation and rescue skills.

Required Equipment

  • Standard Glacier Travel Gear – Including helmet, harness, ascending kit, ice axe, crampons, headlamp, slings, biners

  • Overnight Gear – Sleep System, Shelter

  • Hero Loops (prussic slings just big enough to pull over your helmet)

  • 2 – Pickets slung with a double sling and locking biner

  • 2 – Pulleys

  • Extra clothing – you will get wet

  • Food for two days

  • Optional but recommended

    • Technical tool – e.g. BD Venom

    • V-Thread tool – 14” strand of wire coat hanger with 1/4” sharply bent tip works (optional)

    • 1 - Long Ice Screw (22 cm)

    • 2 – Medium Ice Screws (14-16 cm)

    • Flotation – Snowshoes, skis…
