A 6-hour leader workshop (indoor + outdoor) covering usage of an emergency descent rope in scrambling terrain.

This workshop will cover usage of an emergency descent rope (and a few other lightweight pieces of climbing gear) in scrambling terrain. Includes decision-making criteria for determining if the situation & terrain are appropriate for using a rope. Intended for Everett branch scrambling leaders and prospective leaders; cannot guarantee spots for other branches but will accommodate if possible. Leader permission required -- let us know about your experience and your training.


  • 9:30am   Indoor knot practice (for most participants) (PUD)
  • 10:15am  Indoor knot practice (for more-experienced participants)
  • 11:00am  Slide show (Considerations in using rope)
  • 11:30am  Lunch break / travel to Forest Park
  • 12:30pm  Outdoor skills check (include “frightened scrambler” scenario)
  • 2:30-3:00pm  Wrap-up
