Join Mountaineers Andy Zavada and Sheila Reynolds for this 22nd Walking the Wild event at 7PM on October 5, 2021, eaturing extraordinary adventures on foot across the wilds of the world! Andy will present lovely photos, as well as and trip planning tips, for a 165 mile, two-week loop hike that he and Sheila took in 2018 in California’s Sequoia and King’s Canyon National Parks in what is called The Big Seki. Their two-week journey started and ended at Road’s End in Kings Canyon (due East of Fresno). The trip had a bit of everything; lot’s of solitude (and some serious doubts) to start as they headed up Copper Creek and met up with the beautiful Middle Fork Kings River, then merged with the JMT backpacker “highway” at Palisade Creek and stayed on the JMT/PCT for about a third of the journey, hitting most of the major soaring high altitude passes on the JMT Along the way they had a hand in some sweet trail “magic”, collected a resupply at the Mt Williamson Motel and Basecamp in Independence, CA, and experienced simply lot’s of gorgeous, awe inspiring scenic wonders. In 2018 Andy and Sheila were somewhat new to long distance backpacking and they’ll share how they prepared and the many lessons learned.
The event will be held on zoom. An advance ticket will be required to receive the zoom link to join the presentation. You can get a ticket here for free, but we hope that you will purchase a $10 or $20 ticket which will help The Mountaineers continue to deliver its volunteer-led hiking and backpacking programs. We hope you will join us!
