Philadelphia Alternate #2: LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA – NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK (180 MILES). From Lancaster the route uses quiet roads through the Amish farm country to reach Valley Forge National Historical Park. The Schuylkill River Trail takes cyclists into downtown Philadelphia. You’ll cross the Delaware River into New Jersey riding east, and at Highlands, you’ll catch a ferry to Manhattan Island. A five-block bike path takes you to Battery Park, the end of the route.
