Join us at the Filson Seattle Flagship for an evening with Carl Johnson, the photographer behind the new book, Where Water Is Gold: Life and Livelihood in Alaska’s Bristol Bay (Braided River, 2016)

In any given year, 30 to 60 million Sockeye salmon will course through its cold, clear rivers and lakes. This remarkably rich region is also home to the nation’s largest and wildest state park, a world-famous wildlife sanctuary, and Alaska’s largest lake.

Johnson’s talk will take you through this landscape, bring you up close with its wildlife and introduce you to the intriguing people–Yup’ik Eskimo, Dena’ina Athabascan and Alutiiq tribal leaders, modern day homesteaders, fishing families, and artists–who have helped to keep Bristol Bay safe.

He’ll be selling and signing copies of his book at the event. Salmon bites by Chef Kevin Davis, and beverages  provided!
