Happy Veterans Day

At The Mountaineers, we know the power of nature to restore our souls and inspire our spirits. We're proud of the service of our active-duty and veteran members and their efforts to preserve our Freedom of the Hills for future generations. To celebrate Veteran's Day, we highlight a Mountaineer whose dedication helps our club and our country.

In 2000, Jeremy Perry (who uses them/they pronouns) enrolled as an electronics technician in the Navy. They served for 6 years, with the majority of their time spent aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, homeported in Everett. While aboard the Lincoln, they deployed three times to support the initial stages of the Iraq War. Jeremy joined The Mountaineers two years ago, and credits their time in the military with reminding them how having the right attitude and open-minded approach to learning can help you achieve your wildest dreams in the outdoors:

"Being in the military made me appreciate the outdoors so much more since much of my time was spent out at sea in a relatively small shipboard environment. My time in the Navy showed me the power of a can-do attitude, good teamwork, and learning how to meet objectives with a sense of safety in mind. It also taught me that accomplishing outdoor objectives can be completely possible so long as you're willing to learn how to strengthen your body, mind, and know-how accordingly."

Enjoying the outdoors is a luxury - a freedom we enjoy thanks to the brave people like Jeremy who sacrifice for our country. Today we honor their service.

Thank you Veterans.
