McNeil Island Circumnavigation

McNeil Island Circumnavigation

McNeil Island is wholly government owned.  First a Federal and then State Prison, it is still a State Comittment Facility.  No landing is allowed on the island.  Due to its restricted use, the shoreline is quite wild, with a frequent seal haulout on the island's northeast corner.  Launch points for the island circumnavigation include the 72nd St. launch on Key Peninsula, Penrose State Park and Steilacoom.  Eagle Island State Park, between McNeil and Anderson Islands is a potential break point.
