Lake Ingalls

A strenuous, 9-mile round trip day hike with 2,600 feet of elevation gain in the Teanaway area. The trail heads up through alpine meadows to a beautiful lake basin.

Getting There

Drive I-90 to ~1 mile east of Cle Elum, then drive northeast on SR-970  past the Teanaway River Bridge and turn left on Teanaway River Road. Continue 23 miles to the road end parking area at 4,243 ft, ~1 mile beyond the DeRoux Campground (3,900 ft). Car camping is available at the DeRoux Campground and other campgrounds on the Teanaway River Road.

On the Trail

Lake Ingalls (6,500 ft)

9.0 miles round trip, 2,600 feet of elevation gain

Hike up the old miner's road toward Esmeralda Basin. In 0.3 mile, turn right onto the Ingalls Way Trail and begin climbing through thinning forests. At 2 miles, turn left to stay on the Ingalls Way Trail and hike to Kale Ingalls. Enjoy and up-close view of Ingalls Peak and a spectacular view of Mount Stuart.

Longs Pass (6,250 ft)

5.0 miles round trip, 2,100 feet of elevation gain

Hike up the old miner's road toward Esmeralda Basin. In 0.3 mile, turn right onto the Ingalls Way Trail and begin climbing through thinning forests. At 2 miles, turn right onto the Longs Pass Trail and climb steeply up rocky switchbacks with deteriorating tread that can be very hot in the sun. A herd of mountain goats lives in the vicinity of the pass, and  a sign at the trailhead indicates they are habituated to humans. The view of Mount Stuart from the pass is spectacular.
