French Cabin Mountain/West Peak

Moderate scramble to very nice viewpoint in the Snoqualmie Pass and Lake Kachess region. This route leads to the less traveled West Peak of French Cabin Mountain, rather than the traditional hike to the South Peak.

Driving Instructions

Follow I-90 to Exit 70. Cross I-90 to N side. Turn left and follow Sparks Road, parallel to the highway. At 0.7 miles go right on Kachess Dam Road, and follow it first N, then NE for about a mile. Turn right on the gravel road that leads to trails 1212 and 1315.

One-way Driving Time: 1 hr:45 min. Miles: 72 From: Seattle

Follow Kachess Ridge Trail #1315 along Silver Creek for 5 miles to ~4700'. Trail branches right and gradually ascends French Cabin Mtn ridge to ~5000'. Follow rock ridge about 1/4 mile to summit. Near summit one should drop below ridge crest on the west side and follow the grassy-dirt boot trail in order to avoid class 3-4 rock.  This is a T2 option.

For T3 rock scrambling, leave trail to left at first gully after crossing Silver Creek (dry in late season).  Work up through cliff bands where you can see a scramble route up the mountain.  Gradually work left and up.  Helmets recommended for this variation due to some loose rock.

Kachess Ridge trail #1315 is open to horses and mountain bikes.
