  • Winter Scramble
  • Mileage: 8.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,400 ft
7:00 AM at Issaquah Transit Center
Last minute change: We will instead be going to Sasse.

The goal of this trip will be to scramble Mount Kent, which is just south-east of McClellen Butte at exit 42 on I-90. In spite of being near the freeway, the route is around the the SE of the Mountain, so I don't expect any I-90 noise along the route.

Meet inside the Issquah Transit Center parking garage on the first floor in the Northeast corner at 7:00 AM. Call me on my cell phone at 425-442-6411 if you are running late and want us to wait for you.

- Ice Axe is always required.
- MSR Snowshoes are required. Call me if you have another brand that you feel provide as much traction.
- Crampons are required, (but if it the snow level is below 3000' in the days before the trip, we won't need them.
- Helmet is optional.
- Avalanche Becon is optional but is highly recommended.
- Avalanche shovel and/or probe are optional, but we must have 4 of each for the group.
- Cars might a Northwest Forest Pass.

We take exit 42 on I-90 and drive south a few hundred yards (or as far as we can go) to the trail head. Starting at the McClellen Butte Trail Head, we follow it up to 2200', where we will find Forest Service road 9020. We then follow a series of FS roads up to about 3400' at a point 2 KM due east of the summit. We then loop clockwise up through the basin below the summit and gain it via the SE slope.

Here is a link to some photos a map:;=pwrd1#photos/107451996915477000267/albums/5305540913694536961 We will go up and down the way they came down. See the yellow line on the topo map.

In the event of Considerable Avy between 3000-4000' the destination will change to Mount Catherine via the Lake Annette TH.

NOTE: In the event of heavy nasty rain, the trip will change to an umbrella hike up either Mt Si or Tiger Mountain based on group interest.
