A winter scramble offering great views plus early entrance to the north side of Mount Rainier National Park (on our feet that is, from the Ranger Creek Airstrip and a portion of the Sun Top Trail). A great workout at 4400’ of gain and 14 miles round trip.

This strenuous ~4400’/14 mile scramble starts from the Ranger Creek Airfield, then ascends via Fawn Ridge to Lake 5580 (with a break at Point 5460), then finishes the ascent via North Slide’s NE ridge:

In recent years the vagaries of downed logs have complicated this route, yet recent clearing work should improve our experience.
