  • Mileage: 6.7
  • Elevation Gain: 2,000 ft

Will leave from campground on north shore of Cascade Lake at 9am.

This is an exotic 'ocean cruise' conditioner (knot tying ferry ride) with a bit of cross country navigation and is mostly for my Basic SIG (whose students are all scramble graduates), but open spots will be available for other qualified Alpine Scramblers as well. Total trip is ~4000' gain over ~10 miles owing to the following loop: We'll ascend on the trail from the north side of Cascade Lake (near the campground) in a NNE direction to reach Cold Springs.  From there we'll cross the road to reach the trail junction near 'False Summit' and finally head north to the summit of Mount Constitution.  From the summit we'll descend the trail on the NE slope of Constitution to reach the west shore of Cascade Lake by way of Twin Lakes.  From the boat ramp at the SW corner of Mountain Lake we'll ascend  by trail (not shown on latest map) to Little Summit.  After a cross country navigation exercise between Little Summit and False Summit we will finally descend to the cars by the trail we used earlier.  We'll have some social time practicing our knots while the ferry passes the pristine and primordial San Juan Islands on our way to/from Orcas Island.
