A very strenuous and beautiful winter traverse of Mt Ararat (Longmire to Kautz Creek). At ~4000’ of gain and ~14 miles of trail breaking this workout is only for folks with recent comparable trips.

We will meet at the Kautz Creek trailhead at 6:30AM to stage a car for our return, before continuing to Longmire, our point of departure.  We will meet near the Longmire museum at ~6:45AM for a last use of restrooms before heading out at 7AM.

A very strenuous and beautiful winter traverse of Mt Ararat from Longmire to Kautz Creek. At ~4000’ of gain and ~14 miles of trail breaking this workout is only for folks with recent comparable trips.  We will leave from Longmire and use the snow covered Wonderland Trail to ascend the ENE aspect of Ararat by way of Rampart Ridge, Kautz Creek, Fishers Hornpipe Creek, Devil’s Dream, Indian Henry’s Hunting Ground, and descend the WSW aspect using the winter route to reach the Kautz Creek trailhead.  Photos from prior trips using the WSW aspect of Mt Ararat (as well as a map of the winter route) can be seen here.
