Winter Scramble - Mailbox Peak

A great finish to the holiday break, we are going Up the old, down the old winter scramble. With just over 2.5 miles to the top and ascending 4,100 feet, this means a short, sweet, and steep trip both directions.

  • Very Strenuous, Snow Scramble, Winter Scramble
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,100 ft
  • Pace: up in 3 hours or less

Mailbox Peak parking lot at 7:00am

The plan is to head up the STEEP old route and come down the same STEEP route. This is a very steep hike with an elevation gain of 4,100 feet.  Participants should have done conditioning beforehand and be in good shape already.

We will pick a moderate steady pace with the hope to reach the summit around 3 hours, though no one will get left behind. If this pace is slow for you, load up your pack for more conditioning. If this pace is fast for you, please consider a different choice.

As always, winter weather in Washington changes quickly, so be prepared. (Rain gear & dry clothes for the trip home.) Along with your 10 essentials,  you will need micro spikes and poles at the very least. We will check trip reports a few days prior to the trip and give out more details.

This is a mentor scramble for Becky Nielsen.  Please direct all questions to Becky .
