Low Mountain (winter)

Trip

Winter Scramble - Low Mountain (winter)

A gorgeous, seldom-climbed winter scramble, likely to terminate at a false summit with a great view of Chair and Kaleetan Peaks. If avalanche conditions are not low, we will select a different destination.

North Bend Safeway parking lot, 6:30 am.

The route has us climb to the shoulder of  Granite Mountain, swing around the shoulder and drop to Denny Lake, then run the ridge to the summit of Low. Crossing the shoulder of Granite Mountain crosses several dangerous avalanche chutes, so we will only attempt this peak if the NWAC forecast for near treeline is low. Otherwise, we will head for West Granite.
