DECIDED FOR SUNDAY UPDATE (Feb 3) The weather forecast has changed...not looking as good. Still it seems that Sunday should be the nicer day. This is not yet "firm" - I'll make the final choice by Thursday 4pm. With all the variability in the forecasts from this far out, I'm still hoping that we might get some views. The good news is that avalanche risk looks low. UPDATE (Jan 25) I have a bit more information that some Mountaineer friends have provided. This reinforces that this should be a pretty fun trip, but will probably be a long day for this time of year, quite possibly 12 hours long. We will want to be getting started promptly and should try to keep our rest stops brief so our pace can remain moderate. There is a concern about possible icy areas, so bringing crampons will be strongly recommended. -------------------- THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED due to a high avalanche risk forecast. ----------------------------------------------------- This is a one-day event - I'll pick either Saturday or Sunday, whichever appears to offer the best conditions, hopefully by the Wednesday preceding the event. The goal is main summit of Green Mountain - the peak just beyond Teneriffe. I've recently talked to some scramblers who nearly summitted Green. They started out on the route: http://www.nwhikers.net/forums/download.php?id=5041120858_356166b16a&p;=653799 but unlike the NWHikers party proceded further NE towards the "promontories", then went left up the ridge towards the main summit at 4824'. They were taking their time, enjoying the route - and ran out of time. We'll have to be a bit more "efficient" in order to summit {they thought this was feasible}. ADDED NOTE: A few people have signed up for Saturday-only, a few others for Sunday-only. Since I can't do the trip both days, I can only hope that as the target weekend approaches that conditions will be unmistakeably better for one day or another. In the meantime - for those on the wait-list - there is hope! I'll e-mail a jpg map with the anticipated route once signup closes. USGS maps: Mt Si and Chester Morse. Thanks for your interest!
