The goal is Long Mtn. (5113') on the Mountain Loop Highway (Silverton USGS and Greentrails). Topo indicates 3,900' of gain and 6 miles, the latter certainly an underestimate. The plan is to take the Martin Creek trail till it takes the bend to the NW at 2,600', then ascent SE to the saddle between Long and the 4,880' closed contour to its SW. Cliff bands low will make this a more challenging winter scramble. We will need stable snow . As always, snow and weather conditions may dictate a last minute change of goals.
