Winter Scramble - Deer Park to Maiden Peak

A great workout plus stunning views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and elsewhere. This ‘investigatory’ trip will search for Robert Wood’s Baldy Trail, with our actual itinerary depending on what we find (see Leader Notes).

  • Technical 3, Strenuous 5
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 16.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 5,000 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 6,434 ft

Arranged via email.

Our nominal day will use a loop formed by the Slab Creek Trail, the Upper Gray Wolf Trail to Three Forks, the Three Forks Trail to Deer Park, and finishing with the Deer Ridge Trail back to the cars.  If our investigations of the Baldy Trail are successful (or cross country conditions are good) this may simply be an out and back to/from Baldy (returning to the cars the way we came).  Failing that we will ascend to Deer Park and if minimal energies were expended on the Baldy Trail, even consider an out-and-back to Maiden Peak.  Finally we will return to the cars via the Deer Ridge Trail.  Regardless of our actual itinerary attendees should plan on at least ~6000+ feet of elevation gain over ~15+ miles.
