Trip

Urban Walk - Washington Park Arboretum

This is a fun walk along Lake Washington on Foster Island, Marsh Island, the Montlake Cut and then around the Lookout Loop. We will likely see eagles and marine birds and the boathouse that inspired the movie "Boys In The Boat". There should be many budding and blossoming plants to see as well. This will be my mentored urban walk.

  • Easy
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 5.2 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 548 ft
  • Pace: 2.0-2.5

The walk is along the water and may be muddy in spots. We'll be crossing several foot bridges which have uneven and sometimes slippery footing so wear supportive shoes with traction and consider trekking poles if balance is a concern. We will stay together as a group. There is a public restroom at the beginning and end of the walk (and we’ll pass by it about mile 3 if any stops are needed). The leader rating is moderate due to the 2.0-2.5 pace.

Goals:

  • Have fun and enjoy each others company
  • Make meaningful connections
  • To complete ~5 mile urban walk

Expectations:

  • Arrive on-time, prepared and ready for the trip
  • Stay together as a group
  • Treat others w/ respect, compassion and understanding

Style:

  • While I am destination focused, I like to take in and appreciate the beauty in nature around us
