Urban Walk - Seattle Olmsted 50: Section 2

Join us for an Urban Night Walk along Olmsted 50 Section 2, Woodland Park Zoo to Husky Stadium. We connect many, many Olmsted parks, boulevards and playfields on this one-way walk with easy busing back to the start.

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.4 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 362 ft
  • Pace: 2.5 MPH Average

Meet at 5PM in the Penguin Lot near the restrooms at the West Entrance to the Woodland Park Zoo.  This lot runs parallel to Phinney Ave N, our meeting area will be right by a ramp that leads down to the restrooms.

Section 2 starts at Woodland Park Zoo and then goes to Green Lake, Cowen/Ravenna Parks, Ravenna Boulevard, and finishes near Husky Stadium. It's 6.4 miles one-way with 362 feet of elevation gain.  It will be dark for the duration of our walk, so please remember to bring a headlamp, flashlight, and any other reflective/glowing accessories that will increase our safety as a group.

Our walk takes us down through Woodland Park to walk along Greenlake to the community center. We then follow Ravenna Boulevard to Cowen and Ravenna Parks (for a three bridge adventure). We take Fraterniy Row into the University of Washington campus.  Wander the Quad, enter Suzzallo Library (if open) and admire the Drumheller Fountain as we finish near Husky Stadium. Some may wish to walk back but there is good bus service direct to the Zoo.

Those who complete all five sections -- 50km -- will receive a Seattle Olmsted 50 Badge (when Stewardship is current and you get a passing score -- repeatable-- on the Olmsted experience).

Full turn-by-turn directions will accompany the Hello Urban Walker letter. Walks can also tap the See full route/place details link above the starting point map to find resources.

We will walk fast to keep our heart rates up and bodies warm as the cold nights join us.  I hope to see some fun lights on this night walk!
