Urban Adventure - Wolf Creek Nature Trail

Youth-oriented nature walk filled with discovery (one adult per family).

  • Easy
  • Mileage: 0.5
  • Pace: 1 mph or slower with frequent stops

Meet at the northwest corner of the North parking lot at Discovery Park at 10am. We will depart promptly at 10:05am on the Wolf Tree Nature Trail.

Ideally, I'd like to have more youth on this hike than adults, so please, only one adult per family.

This is an opportunity to get youth outside, slow down, and learn about nature on this 1/2 mile loop. Together, we'll take a look through loupes to see the tiny worlds of mosses and lichens. We might find some skunk cabbage or other flowering plants in bloom. Maybe we'll find some newt or frog eggs in one of the small ponds near the trail. It's amazing what one can see when we slow down, get down low, and really look at nature!

We'll spend an hour or so exploring the trail and discovering all it has to show us.

After the walk, we'll walk over to the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center and find a place to sit so the kids can draw what they thought was the best "find" on the walk.

Things to bring/wear (if you have them):

  • Jeweler's loupe or magnifying glass
  • A pail and small fish net for the ponds
  • Waterproof boots or shoes
  • Paper & pencil to draw what they see
  • Cellphone or camera to take pictures (most kids enjoy this)
