Urban Adventure - Kalaloch Beach

Urban Adventure - Kalaloch Beach

Family Beach Clean-up and Car Camping at the amazing Kalaloch Beach and Campground. We will be helping the Coastsavers on their biannual beach cleanup by picking up beach trash, sorting it, and creating art work with it. A great Stewardship activity for families.

COVID-19: Learn about our most up-to-date guidance for participants and leaders on our COVID-19 Response page. All participants and leaders must agree to the COVID-19 Code of Conduct before participating in this Mountaineers activity.

Beach Cleanup will happen at Kalaloch Beach on the Washington Coast and we will spend Friday and/or Saturday night at the campground there. During the day we will rendezvous with Washington Coast Savers Volunteer Coordinator to help with the beach clean up for several hours.  More specifics will be provided closer to the time.  Evenings will be spent exploring the beach, climbing on driftwood, hiking the woodland trail, and doing fun campsite activities.

I have reserved two campsites at Kalaloch, one for the big Mountaineers family tent and one for Dirk and I.  Plan to use this sight unless I notify you that it is already taken.  In that event, additional campers need to reserve ASAP their own sites at  https://www.recreation.gov/camping/kalaloch/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=70944

We have sites A66 and A67 and several sites close to that are available right now!

Come for Friday night and Saturday clean up, Saturday night for either Saturday or Sunday Clean up, or both nights.

You can also just drive up for one day if you want, but it is a 2.5 hour drive from Olympia, so camping is better.

We  will coordinate Friday and Saturday dinners and probably Sunday breakfast once we have the schedule and roster.  It may include evergreen huckleberry treats.

Required Equipment

Required Equipment

For Beach Clean-Up:

Weather appropriate clothing plus a change of clothes.  Beach shoes.  Gloves for handling garbage.  Always include rain gear and clothing warm enough for the winds at the beach.  Sack lunch and snacks for working hard.  Coast savers may provide us with additional gear requirements.

For Camp-out:

If you need a gear list for car camping, please request the leader to email it to you.  A certain amount of camping gear is available to members, including a giant tent that I would like to make available to kids plus assorted smaller tents.
