Urban Adventure - Boston Harbor Vicinity

Join South Sound Estuary Association's Pier Peer for this specially arranged family activity. Start late to see what animals come out in the waters around the docks after dark. Biologists help you know what you see and scoop up!

  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)

We will meet at the docks at Boston Harbor 1/2 hour before sunset for snack and some lessons about sea life and to fit ourselves with life jackets.

The Pier Peer begins at dark and last until people are done, usually about 1.5 hours.

More details will be sent shortly before event.

Cancelled if raining.

see http://www.sseacenter.org/pier-peer/ for more information

This event has been going on for years and is really terrific for learning what life exists in our very own Budd Inlet.  With lights sunk into the water and your own flashlights, along with special long handled scoops, you can find everything from small, nearly invisible jellies, to big anemonies, crazy crabs, twisting nudibracks, and shooting squids.  Sometimes even a harbor seal makes an appearance.

Because it is night, dress for cold weather with hats and warm coats.

We will gather at the docks near the restaurant and picnic on special sea snacks and hot beverages before gearing up in life jackets and heading out to the floats.
