Frontcountry Trail Run - Coal Creek Falls Loop

Frontcountry Trail Run - Coal Creek Falls Loop

Expect beautiful scenery, fun natural/historic facts (if desired), and some lovely conversation during this pleasant jaunt through the forest. As we'll be accompanied by the lovely Asher (my pup) we'll probably have a decent pace, but will be pausing at regular intervals when encountering water.

  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 5.0 mi
  • Pace: ~12 minutes miles

Meeting Location: the Red Town Trailhead, which is also indicated on the map above. If you don't spot us (myself and the pooch) in the parking lot, we'll meet you by the sign at the trailhead, where we can borrow some maps (if wanted) and discuss the route!

Departure Objective: shoes and battlefaces on, safety talk and initial trail assessment accomplished, and feet to trail by 6:45.

This area of Cougar Mountain is an lovely mix of everything from a few gravel roads to single track and heavily wooded areas to several graveled tracks. Expect elevation gains varying from 500-1000 feet elevation gain depending on the distance/pace we choose. Expect a lovely evening with at least a stop or two to check out the evening's sights, read some historic signs, and water the pooch.

I'm a 'short' distance runner, aiming for 4-6 miles, but it'll probably be at a decent pace somewhere between 10-13 minute miles depending on the elevation gain/terrain and the pooch. Be prepared to stretch those legs (though, honestly, with the dog, if the weather's hot!

  1. - Meet some fantastic people and maybe learn a little history/about Washington nature
  2. - Practice your mad trail skills
  3. - Be safe
  4. - Love run - revel in the burn
  5. - Know that, even if it's hot and sunny, we can still find a way to enjoy ourselves...

Other information to reiterate: Asher, my delicate and non-judgemental pooch will be accompanying us. Therefore, expect occasional dog stops and LOTS of adventure enthusiasm. Be warned: he may inspire you (I know he's constantly working on me).
