8:45 AM at Martin Creek Trailhead
Located in the Stevens Pass Historic District, the Iron Goat trail is a fully interpreted trail nearly 10 miles in length built on abandoned railroad grade. This portion of the Great Northern Railway was abandoned in 1929 and trail construction and maintenance has been ongoing for over 20 years. Currently, in addition to maintenance of the Iron Goat Trail, new hiker-only trail is being constructed into the new Wild Sky Wilderness to link the Martin Creek Trailhead with the Kelley Creek Trail. Join us in the beautiful Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest for trail work ranging from easy to strenuous, depending on your ability and preference. At the end of the work day there will be a complimentary trailhead barbecue. Plan to stay and relax after a satisfying day on the trail. Directions: Take US 2 to MP 55.0 (6 miles east of Skykomish, 9 miles west of the summit). Turn north onto the Old Cascade Highway. Proceed to the junction with USFS Road #6710. Turn north and go 1.4 miles to the trailhead. Please dress for trail work: Boots, long sleeves & covered legs - be prepared for adverse weather conditions. Hard work, but fun!
