8:00am at Irish Cabin
The Mountaineers Irish Cabin property is just outside the Carbon River Ranger Station at Mt. Rainier National Park. Don Campbell will be the lead for the day. Gary Zink will be the Safety Officer and lead the power equipment/saw sections. Additional leaders very welcome. Schedule: 0800 - Leaders meet on site to review the work and plan tasks, evaluate workforce required, etc. 0830 - Volunteers and students on site, boots on, ready to go to work. 0830 - 0845 Safety discussion, tool instruction if necessary, discuss day's events and schedule. 1030-1045: Mid-morning Break 1200 - 1230: Lunch 1400-1415: Afternoon Break 1530: Knock off Clothing REQUIRED: Gloves, long sleeved shirts, boots, long pants. Bring rain gear, especially rain pants as it will probably be wet. Do not wear your good outdoor clothes! Cotton is okay - blue jeans, etc. Equipment Required: Personal first aid kit, lunch, snacks, water. Water is not available at the site. Bring at least two to three liters of water for your personal use. Tools: If you have lopping shears, pruning snips, pruning saw, shovels, slingblades, brushhooks, etc. - please bring them. We will NOT have tools to loan out or to give out. If you can bring a box of large garbage bags, please bring it. A lot of what we are doing will be picking up trash, light clearing of brush, and trimming limbs. If you have gas-powered lawnmower, gas-powered weed eater, chain saw, pole pruners - please bring them. We may not use them but it is nice to have them just in case. Work to Be Done: Mow the parking area, side areas, and frontage. Weedeat and clean up the Short Nav course area. Re-set monuments if required. Remove downed trees, limbs, etc. from the trails. Clear trails back to the various activity areas. Clean weeds and overgrown brush from the bearing check areas. Pick up trash along property frontage. Check and verify Long Nav. cone locations on the road. Re-establish stakes at Long Nav. Takeoff points B and C.
