Stewardship Half Day - Shadow Lake Nature Preserve

Help SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve thoughtfully restore and preserve the biodiversity of the land we steward by removing invasive weeds and pruning native species so that new, native plantings thrive. This work party will be facilitated with our partners, Cascadia Forest Therapy, to bring mindful intention to the restoration work. Basing the experience on the principles of Forest Bathing, the work party will have a deeper connection to the plants and restorative intention than in our usual work parties. Your sensory-focused time in the natural world will culminate in a closing ceremony.

  • Casual

This Restoration Work Party takes place from 9 AM to 12 PM at SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve (21656 184th Ave SE, Renton WA 98058). We will meet at the main parking lot at SHADOW's Richter Education Center and head to the restoration location.  Parking is limited and carpooling encouraged. Extra parking is along 184th Ave. Staff will lead those who are interested on a tour of our peat bog following the work party.

No previous experience or tools are required, simply arrive with weather-proof clothing for working outside (closed toed shoes are a must), a water bottle, and be ready to have fun while making a difference. Please be aware that you may encounter muddy areas, plants with thorns, or areas where native pollinators (including bees) are thriving.
