Green Mountain: Gold Creek Trail

Trip

Stewardship Half Day - Green Mountain: Gold Creek Trail

Half-day stewardship at Green Mountain (Kitsap). Volunteers will work alongside local DNR staff to re-route a section of eroded trail.

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 5.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,000 ft

Volunteers will meet at the Gold Creek Trailhead (Green Mountain, Bremerton) at 9AM (or be ready to start hiking to the worksite by 9:05ish).

This work party will be led by Alexa Crnic, the trail steward and DNR recreation warden for Green Mountain.  Look for her RED truck in the parking lot.

The project for this workparty is to re-route a short steep rutted section of the Tin Mine Trail. The new trail segment will be a easy graded switchback.  Volunteers will learn first-hand the skills of building new trail.  Much of the work is building the "tread" - by removing the  decaying leaves/debris layer off the nice rocky soil below.

There will be some tools available, brought by DNR. However, please bring your own if you have them! Helpful tools would include mattocks, mcleod, pulaski, pruners/clippers, and shovels.

Also don't forget some work gloves, eye protection, snacks, water, and your 10 essentials.  (Oh, and discover pass)
