The Center for Natural Lands Management has been successfully restoring prairie and oak woodlands throughout the South Sound region for the past 19 years.  Our hiking tour will be led by some of their AmeriCorps members and longtime volunteers.  We will learn about the unique plants that thrive on the prairie.  The Camas should be in bloom.  Birding enthusiasts should bring their binoculars.  We should have the opportunity to see Western Bluebirds, osprey, not to mention many species of song birds.  There are plenty of beautiful places to have a picnic lunch along the Black River.  The entire hike around the preserve is just under 4 miles.  In the afternoon we will do a couple hours of restoration work (broom pulling).  We will plan on being at the preserve by 9:00am and should finish around 3:00pm.   When we get closer to the date of the event I will coordinate carpooling from West Olympia.
