Stewardship - Church Creek–Satsop Lakes

The US Forest Service has requested our help to maintain the Church Creek Trail located in the southern part of Olympic National Forest (about 50 miles from Olympia). We will be working from the Western trailhead - Satsop Lake side of Church Creek, our first trip there in a many years. There is much cleaning up to do at this season's end, so we are looking for a good-sized crew.

Celebrate National Public Lands Day a week later at one of our favorite outdoor playgrounds, the Olympic National Forest!

The Olympia Mountaineers offers you a chance to give back to a unique trail system y in the Pacific Northwest. The September 30th trail maintenance will consist of (possibly some) Crosscut Saw, brushing, to cut back vegetation from encroaching on the trail pathway, and tread repair to restore trail from winter drainage problems. Try your hand at one, or all. Build new skills, enjoy a fun day of service and gain a sense of accomplishment having done a good deed for other hikers.

Join the Olympia Branch for our final 2023 year trail maintenance project at Church Creek Trail. We'll have a variety of projects from an abundance of brushing and drainage improvements to a moving a log off trail.

Olympia participants will meet at 7:30am at Haggen’s Food and Drugs located at 1313 Cooper Point Road Northwest, Olympia.  Meet on the left-hand side of the large parking lot (left while facing the storefront, closest to the flashing blue light). Cars being left at Haggen's will be relocated at a safe site.

Our return time goal to Haggen's parking lot will be 5:00 PM

Brushing will play a large part in the day’s activities, because the trail will deftly disappear into the thick undergrowth if not addressed.  Depending on the number of participants, trail maintenance will consist of:  (1) Brushing to cut back vegetation from encroaching on the trail, (2) possibly some drainage repair to restore trail from winter drainage problems and prevent future damage. (3) and possibly some light Crosscut Saw work.

Try your hand at any or all. Build new skills, enjoy a fun day of service, and gain a sense of accomplishment having done a good deed for other hikers.
