This is a pool play session for 2 hours at the Shelton High School pool for a $15 fee. This is a fun, relaxed time to practice kayaking skills like strokes, rescues and rolls. Your boat and equipment must be very clean including the cockpit. Priority is given to members of the Olympia Mountaineers until 5 days before the activity ie Nov 27th. Meeting place/time: Shelton High School pool at 3737 N Shelton Springs Rd, Shelton 98584. The session is from 2:00-4:00pm so meet at the pool btw 1:45 and 2:00.
Directions: From Olympia follow Hwy 101 to the third Shelton exit (Wallace Kneeland). Go right at the end of the ramp onto Wallace Kneeland Blvd. At the third light, (Don't count the blinking light) turn left onto N. Shelton Springs Rd. (Don't turn into the YMCA).In about a half mile turn left immediately after the football/soccer field into the school. After turning into the school drive straight back until the driveway is about to bend right. Stop. The pool entrance is 90 degrees to your left in a building marked "Pool". (not the building closest to you.) Turn left and drive up onto the walkway to the pool entrance. You will likely see others unloading boats. After unloading, park anywhere that looks like legitimate parking, but not in the area near the pool entrance.
If you are coming from the north, Hwy 101 has a left turn directly onto E.Shelton Springs Rd just before a Chevron station. This turns into N.Shelton Springs Rd and the High School will be on your right. Turn in just before the football field.
Pool play is historically a friendly group of people working on either individual skills or with another paddler. If you want another person to do some skills with like buddy rescue, let the me know so I can see if I can find a match. The skill level usually varies widely so dont worry about your skill level. You can bring either sea kayaks or white water kayaks. There isn't really enough room for a double. I need to reemphasize that all equipment must be very clean or we wont be allowed to use the pool. Make sure to especially flush out under your seat. There is not a hose at the pool so do this at home. Dry suits are not needed but many wear a light weight wet suit...or less.
