We will launch from Seafarer’s Park and cross to Guemes Island. Following Guemes shoreline around Casperson Point, we’ll pass by Huckleberry before heading over to paddle around Dot Island (keeping 200 yards from the shoreline of this SJ Island National Wildlife Refuge), stopping on Saddlebag. Lunch on Saddlebag includes an optional 1+ mile hike around the island (no special hiking gear or clothing needed).
For students who have not yet graduated: At some point during the day, students will practice self and assisted rescues. All students must bring a printed chart of the route (print off from DeepZoom or NOAA is fine) with notes about the currents, tides, and weather forecast. Do your best. No one will fail. It's all in the spirit of learning.
Be sure to bring a dry bag with a change of clothing in case you end up in the water with a zipper open by mistake. Bring whatever you need to stay comfortable on our breaks: sun/warm hat, gloves, windbreaker, hot tea, lunch, sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen.
