Sea Kayak - East Passage, Puget Sound

All Basic Sea Kayak Student Paddlers are welcome to join this paddle. We’ll launch from the Beach beside Dash Point Pier (located at 1500 Beach Dr NE, Tacoma 98422). Once on the water we’ll hand rail shore line until reach Browns Point Lighthouse Park, where we will stop briefly to stretch our legs and use the porta potty if needed. We will then continue on around Browns Point to the mouth of the Hylebos Waterway in the Port of Tacoma. After lunch we’ll make our way back north, stopping again at Browns Point Lighthouse Park as needed or desired by the group.

We’ll meet at Dash Point Park and Pier (located at 1500 Beach Dr NE, Tacoma 98422) at 8:45am.  Please note that the meeting place is about a mile west of Dash Point State Park.

Note To everyone the parking in the lot is free and no parking pass is required.

There are public restrooms in area and the parking lot is near the beach, so no wheels are needed.

All Tacoma Sea Kayaking Student are required to have their Paddle Completion Sheets filled out and ready for discussion at lunch time.  We will complete the required rescues and also have some fun getting wet on a warm day at various locations along our route depending on the preferences of the students.

Be sure to bring a lunch and something hot to drink.
Proper Immersion clothing required!

Required Equipment

These eight essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips.  All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.

  1. Floatation in both ends of the kayak
  2. U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  3. Paddle
  4. Spray skirt
  5. Bilge pump with floatation
  6. Self-rescue paddle float
  7. Waterproof whistle
  8. Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
