Sea Kayak - Pickering Passage

Tacoma branch student paddle. Starting at Graham Point we will paddle to Jarrell Cove and back along the beautiful waters of Pickering Passage.

We will meet at Latimers Landing- 51 E Harstine Bridge Rd, Shelton, WA 98584.

Arrive by 11am

Launch at 12pm

After unloading boats we will have a brief shore talk before launching at 12pm.  Lunch will be had at Jarrell Cove with an opportunity to practice self and assisted rescues after lunch.  After rescue practice we will return to launch with another rescue practice before loading the boats. 

The water is cold and we will be in it. Dress for immersion!

Required Equipment

These eight essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips.  All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.

  1. Floatation in both ends of the kayak
  2. U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  3. Paddle
  4. Spray skirt
  5. Bilge pump with flotation
  6. Self-rescue paddle float
  7. Waterproof whistle
  8. Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
  9. Immersion protection appropriate for the weather.
