Sea Kayak - Penn Cove

Depending on weather conditions we’ll explore Penn Cove and perhaps paddle out toward Saratoga Straight. We’ll view the lovely town of Coupeville from the water, perhaps check out the commercial mussel farm. Penn Cove is a marine preserve, part of the Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve.

  • We’ll launch by 10 am, back around 3 pm.  
  • Dry suit required.  
  • Please ensure you have all your sea kayak and 10 essentials.
  • Bring a lunch and lots of water.  
  • We’ll discuss the plan before launching.
  • We won’t be speed demons but we won’t lollygag too much unless we see some really interesting.
  • Optional attendance at a apres-paddle refreshments at a local TBD establishment.

We’ll launch from Captain Coupe’s Park and Boat Launch in Coupeville.  Plan on meeting around 9 am.  If taking the ferry from Mukilteo plan on taking the 7:30 am ferry to Clinton.  It takes about 45 minutes to drive from Clinton to Coupeville.

Required Equipment

These eight essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips.  All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.

  1. Floatation in both ends of the kayak
  2. U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  3. Paddle
  4. Spray skirt
  5. Bilge pump with floatation
  6. Self-rescue paddle float
  7. Waterproof whistle
  8. Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
