Sea Kayak - Padilla Bay & Nearby Islands

Explore Huckleberry, Dot, and Saddlebag islands from Anacortes.

The plan is to paddle north to the northeast point of Cap Sante.  From there we will cross to Guemes Island at Southeast Point.  Around the corner, we will paddle to Huckleberry Island and work our way over to Dot Island prior to returning to our launch point.  Lunch will be on Saddlebag Island. 

All branches and Mountaineers qualified sea kayakers welcome.  Those individuals participating in the incident management  and currents clinics Thursday and Friday prior to this paddle are encourage to stay another day and come along.  This paddle qualifies (weather dependent) as a sea kayak basic class experience paddle.  Please let me know in advance if you are planning to use this event for one of your experience paddles.  

Be ready to launch by 9:30 am at the Anacortes Seafarers Memorial Park.  Restrooms and free parking available.

These eight essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips.  All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.

  1. Floatation in both ends of the kayak
  2. U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  3. Paddle
  4. Spray skirt
  5. Bilge pump with floatation
  6. Self-rescue paddle float
  7. Waterproof whistle
  8. Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
