New Year's Day paddle to McMicken Island

We will meet at the Herron Island ferry landing (20801 Isted County Rd, Lakebay, WA) at 9:30 am and launch at 10:30 am.

Join us for a New Year's Day paddle (6.0 nm) from the Herron Island ferry landing to McMicken Island for a snack break, then back to Herron Island for some hot chili and cornbread at the covered picnic tables near the beach.  

Paddlers must wear dry suits over warm clothing, and bring a warm hat and gloves.

We will go out in winds of up to 12 kts and waves of up to one foot.  If conditions are more than this, the trip will be cancelled.

These seven essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips.  All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.

  1. Floatation in both ends of the kayak
  2. U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  3. Paddle
  4. Spray skirt
  5. Bilge pump with floatation
  6. Self-rescue paddle float
  7. Waterproof whistle
  8. Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
  9. Dry suit/warm hat and gloves
