From Fort Flagler we'll paddle south along the east shore of Indian Island, to Kinney Point State Park. Continue around the south end of Marrowstone and along it's east shore taking advantage of the ebb and current assist. Final stretch expect to ride a strong current from the south around Marrowstone Point.
Expected finish: 4 - 5 PM
Distance:
- Put in, 0 NM. (restrooms, running water)
- Kinney Point State Park, (6 NM) for lunch. (vault toilet)
- East Beach County Park, (10 NM) for break. (portable toilet)
- Take out, (14 NM)
Meet on the west side of Fort Flagler near the boat launch on Kilisut Harbor side. Pre-launch chat at 9:45, launch at 10 AM. Restrooms with running water are located walking distance from the launch.
Discovery Pass required.
Getting there:
From Seattle area, if taking the ferry plan on 50-60 minutes drive from Kingston ferry terminal; 15 min more from Bainbridge Island terminal. The 7:10 AM from Edmonds should be plenty of time; the 7:55 AM is possible with no stops.
If using a mapping app, search for "fort flagler lower campground". If not, follow road signs toward Fort Flagler State Park. Where you drive onto the island it's 2.5 mi to the Nordland store, then another 2.6 miles to Fort Flagler main entrance. Continue past the entrance 0.6 miles to a 4-way stop, turn left and continue another 1.3 miles to a parking lot on the left at the shore facing Port Townsend and Olympic Mountains. I believe there's a kiosk here to buy a discovery pass if needed.
Coffee/tea is available on the way:
- Starbucks in Port Hadlock at the QFC (5:30 AM – 7 PM).
- Nordland General Store on Marrowstone (8 AM – 6 PM).
