Olympic Outdoor Center dock in Poulsbo at 9:15am, Young Street NE, Poulsbo, WA 98370.
Students of the Basic Class must bring a completed paddle completion sheet and a 2015 tide/current booklet.
Non-students may meet at 9:45am.
Preference will be given to Kitsap Sea Kayaking Basic Class students until May 29, 2015.
Parking space on Young Street is restricted, so carpooling is encouraged.
There is parking on 3rd Ave NE and at the "old police station", both just up hill from the dock area, after dropping off your boat and gear at the top of the dock gangway. See below for carpooling details.
Rental kayaks, dry suits and other gear are available at the Olympic Outdoor Center (OOC) dock, but must be reserved in advance. To reserve a rental kayak and other required gear, please contact Forrest at 360-297-4659 asap. The OOC rental gear may be picked up starting at 10:00am.
Immersion wear is required. We’ll visit Keyport Mercantile & Sandwich shop for lunch, weather permitting, or you can bring your own lunch if desired.
Carpooling details:
To allow others to view your contact information and arrange carpooling, please update your Mountaineers profile per the directions below if you have not already done so. Note that carpooling options were enhanced in early December so you may wish to update your profile accordingly.
How to update your Mountaineers profile:
1. Login to the Mountaineers website and click on your name in the upper right corner,
2. On the drop down menu, click on “My Profile”, then in left sidebar click on “Preferences”.
3. On the “Member Profile” tab, upload an image of yourself in the “Image” section.
4. Inside the “Bio” section, insert any information about yourself
5. Continue with other information on page
6. Scroll back to the top, and select the “Contact Info” tab and fill out
7. Scroll back to the top, and select the “Preferences” tab. In addition to the other choices, ensure you “untick” the box “Make My Membership Private”. Select ride/drive preferences via the drop down, the add in Carpool notes, sample below:
[city] is my car-pool area. If I drive, I can take [quantity] passengers and gear. If kayaking, I and can haul [quantity] kayaks in addition to my own. If you want to car pool with me, send me an email: [email]. My phone number is [number]. For those with pet allergies, I [do/do not] carry [dogs/cats] in my car. I am amenable to splitting fuel cost and bridge tolls.
8. IMPORTANT: Click on the Save button at the bottom.

Required Equipment
These seven essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips. All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.
- Floatation in both ends of the kayak
- U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
- Paddle
- Spray skirt
- Bilge pump with floatation
- Self-rescue paddle float
- Waterproof whistle
- Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
