Sea Kayak - Hope Island

Explore the beautiful waters around Hope Island State Park, including the west side of Squaxin Island and some current play in the mouth of Hammersley Inlet.

This will be a tour of the Hope Island surroundings. We'll start off paddling into the mouth of Hammersley Inlet to do a bit of current play. We'll then paddle up into Pickering Passage and cross over to Squaxin Island, exploring the shore southward before crossing back to Hope Island for lunch. After lunch we will continue further south along Squaxin Island before crossing to Hunter Point. From there we will paddle up to Carlyon Beach and Steamboat Island. In the small cove at the north end of Steamboat Island, we will do some rescue practice before crossing the mouth of Totten Inlet and paddling back to Arcadia.

Meet at the Arcadia Point boat launch.  Be ready to be on the water by 10:00am

There are porta-potties at the launch and there is no fee to launch or park.

These eight essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips.  All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.

  1. Floatation in both ends of the kayak
  2. U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  3. Paddle
  4. Spray skirt
  5. Bilge pump with floatation
  6. Self-rescue paddle float
  7. Waterproof whistle
  8. Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
