Henderson Inlet

Trip

Sea Kayak - Henderson Inlet

We’ll start at Boston Harbor, and head NE through Dana Passage, to Henderson Inlet. We’ll explore this area until reaching Woodward Bay Natural Resources (game Reserve). We’ll have Lunch there. It’s about another 2nm to bottom of the Inlet. The reserve is closed during winter months because of migrating birds and a fairly large population of seals live there also. We won’t intrude on any of these creatures we’ll just observe them from near by. The current in Dana Passage, will max-out at 1.8kts during the Ebb tide. It will be about 1.1kts or less during our return to Boston Harbor as it Floods.

Kayaks-packages can be rented here but you’ll need to make your own rental arrangements at 360.357.5670.  Please be sure to reserve your kayak package far enough in advance for this paddle.   We’ll be departing Boston Harbor beach before the Rental Shop, opens Sunday morning.

 FYI:

If you park in the singles vehicle parking lot near boat ramp. It requires a Discovery Pass, note we’ve been given permission to park in a private lot near the public restroom 🚽.

Also beware cell service is spotty if your using a GPS to find your way to the Boston Harbor Marina, be sure to have a back up map in case it’s not working.

I’m hoping most paddlers will join me for a warm-up after paddle snack and debrief meeting; at the Boston Harbor Marina Store, they offer Job Truck like Menu of Clam Chowder, Chili, hamburgers, & beer on tap. And other non-alcohol  beverages.

This is a winter paddle I expect everyone to be properly dressed for conditions a Drysuit is required.

Bring a Cag, Paunch, and  Pogies

Bring the following if you have them:

radio

tow belt

Pack a Lunch, something hot to Drink and lots of snacks

If our group adventures to bottom of Henderson Inlet the round trip would be 16nm. If we shorten this distance by not adventuring beyond the game reserve it will be about 12nm round trip. We’ll make this  decisions the day of paddle. Depending on weather and group strength.

I’ll contact All paddlers the Friday before Sunday with any  weather concerns and  update
