Sea Kayak - Golden Gardens to Richmond Beach

SK-II+ -- We are actually going to paddle south to Elliot Bay, but the site will not let me create a trip with that title. The primary focus of this trip will be forward stroke instruction.

Meet at Golden Gardens Park (Ballard) at 9 am. Park by the Bath House. We will "stage" in the lawn between the parking area and the Bath House. We will launch around 10 am.

  • Difficulty: SK-II+, Easy/Moderate
  • Wind: 5-10 kt
  • Waves: 1 foot or less
  • Route: South to Elliot Bay, then return along same route
  • Distance:  8 nm
  • Pace: Moderate

We'll paddle from Golden Gardens, Shilshole Bay to Smith Cove, Elliot Bay.

Required Equipment

These seven essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips.  All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.

  1. Floatation in both ends of the kayak - and a sea sock of you have no bulkheads
  2. U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  3. Paddle
  4. Spray skirt
  5. Bilge pump with floatation
  6. Self-rescue paddle float
  7. Waterproof whistle
  8. Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
