Fox Island Circumnavigation

Sea Kayak - Fox Island Circumnavigation

Skills Development and Limit Expansion. We will seek out SK IV or V conditions to develop our skills and expand our kayaking limits.

COVID-19: Learn about our most up-to-date guidance for participants and leaders on our COVID-19 Response page. All participants and leaders must agree to the COVID-19 Code of Conduct before participating in this Mountaineers activity.
  • Sea Kayak IV/V
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 12.0 nm
  • Maximum Wind: 35 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 6 ft
  • Maximum Currents: 7 kts
  • Pace: 3.5 kt

Destination will likely change according to conditions.  Please allocate a full day and anticipate the possibility of an early start.

To develop skills and expand our limits we will seek out challenging conditions.

Where we go and what we do depends on conditions.  If weather is stormy we will choose a suitable protected paddle where we can safely experience those conditions.  If weather is calmer we may go to Deception Pass for currents, to Crescent Beach for surf, or a circumnavigation for training.

Participants should feel they are ready to paddle in SK IV conditions.  Should be willing to get wet, practice skills, try new things, push limits, and be safety support for others.

Since actual conditions won't be known until a few days before the trip you don't know exactly what you are signing up for.  For this reason, I understand if people choose to cancel off the trip if you decide it is too far beyond your limits.
