Sea Kayak - Eagle Harbor to Port Blakely

Student Paddle for 2018 Everett Basic Kayak Course with rental options. Eagle Harbor/Bainbridge Island

  • Sea Kayak II
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 8.0 nm
  • Maximum Wind: 10 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 1.5 ft
  • Maximum Currents: 1.5 kts
  • Pace: Moderate 2.5nm/hr average

Meet:  9:30AM at launch site

Launch: 10:30 AM

Launch from public dock in Eagle Harbor on Waterfront Trail.  The city says the address is 370 Brien DR SE but the access is actually at the end of Shannon Dr. SE.  Come off ferry and turn left on Winslow Way E then left on Madison Ave South and left on Bjune Dr. SE then right on Shannon Dr. SE. Follow to turn around at end.  Unload gear and then drive back up and find parking on Brien or Bjune.

Make sure you time your ferry ride appropriately.  Earlier is better.

I expect this sea kayak trip to have this difficulty and plan to paddle in up to these conditions (view the sea kayak difficulties definitions on our Activity Types, Difficulties & Prerequisites page):

  • Difficulty:  Easy
  • Wind: <10kts
  • Waves: 1-1.5 max unless weather changes its mind
  • Currents: negligible
  • Distance:  8nm
  • Pace: Moderate

This is a student paddle. Rental of boats (not dry suits) available at the dock from Exotic Aquatics and Scuba.

The exclusive link for renting from them for this paddle is: https://fareharbor.com/embeds/book/exoticaquaticsscuba/items/90934/availability/135959340/book/?flow=no

Plan is to paddle out of Eagle Harbor to Blakely Rock then in to Port Blakely Harbor for a lunch/refreshment stop before paddling back to the launch site.  We generally see seals, eagles, and other waterfowl/birds.  Great view of Seattle for most of the paddle. Depending on time and weather we may also paddle in and around the boat/yacht docks in Eagle Harbor and admire the floating money pits (with some degree of envy, probably).

Optional and voluntary post-paddle resupply of carbs, proteins, and liquids will be planned at place TBD.
